A CRISIS IN WAITING.
SIDNEY'S THOUGHTS ON PREVENTABLE CRISES THAT THREATEN OUR WORLD AND IT'S PEOPLES.
1. CLIMATE CHANGE.
Climate change due to excessive burning of fossil fuels to produce energy for electricity generation and the propulsion of motor vehicles, ships and aeroplanes will cause catastrophic changes in sea water levels due to global warming and the melting of the earth's ice caps at the north and south poles.
Inland river dams will dry up, arable land will turn into deserts, food production will diminish and starving populations will perish from lack of sustenance.
Food insecurity can lead to social unrest.
The catastrophic rise in sea levels will inundate arable farm land and destroy crops.
Buildings near the shore lines will be under water due to the rising sea levels. Property destruction will be severe.
2. OVER POPULATION OF THE EARTH.
Our earth has limited arable land on which to cultivate crops to sustain the food chain.
When the amount of humans and plant eating animals exceed the supply of food, pandemonium will exist as humans and animals will compete for the diminishing sources of food.
This situation can lead to riots and even wars as every living creature turns to survival mode in order to satisfy their hunger.
Every human and every animal has a carbon footprint because when a living creature breaths in oxygen it is converted into carbon dioxide and methane gas by the digestive process. These gases exit our bodies via the breathing process and the passing of wind.
However the carbon footprint of humans is greater because of the use of fossil fuels to generate power.
It is obvious that the larger the population of especially humans the greater the amount of carbon footprints and the greater the demand for drinkable water and food.
Our world is overpopulated and population growth is accelerating at an amazing pace.
The balance between population growth and the availability of food and water is currently unsustainable and getting worse.
In my opinion continued population growth in tandem
with global warming and consequent destruction of necessary resources we as concerned humans must act immediately to avoid global turmoil which will be resource driven.
